Solo Exhibition at Radisson, Limavady.
August Bank Holiday Weekend: Friday 27th – Monday 30th August 2010

The Radisson Hotel Limavady will play host to the annual exhibition of new work by Kilrea artist Adrian Margey over the August Bank Holiday Weekend.  The exhibition is the latest in a series of shows that the artist has planned this year as part of a project supported by the Creative Industries Innovation Fund, administered by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

The Limavady exhibition places a strong focus on the landscape and people of the Roe Valley and surrounding areas.  Visitors will delight at Margey’s distinctive portrayals of local beauty spots such as the Dog Leap Bridge, Mussenden Temple at Downhill and Dungiven Castle.  Historic Saint Aidan’s Priory, Martello Tower, Bovevagh, Benone Strand and Benevenagh have all been captured on canvas especially for this exhibition.  Scenes from around Magilligan and Roe Valley Forest together with striking representations of nearby Derry City and the Inishowen Peninsula make this an exhibition of contrasts.  Although much of the work is bold, colourful and contemporary echoing the aesthetics of modern living, Margey’s roots in traditional landscape painting are also well represented in the exhibition.  Also set to be featured are a number of the artist’s popular Irish traditional music session scenes.

The exhibition opens at the Radisson Roe Park Resort Limavady on the evening of Friday 27th August from 6pm to 9.30pm and continues Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th August 11am – 8.30pm and Monday 30th: 11am – 7pm.  Admission free - everyone welcome.

Margey exhibition at Bellaghy Bawn brings past to life

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) today announced it is to host a collection of work by Kilrea artist Adrian Margey at Bellaghy Bawn this summer.

The select collection of 20 original pieces will explore local historical sites and rural life.

NIEA Archaeologist Paul Logue, said: “We are looking forward to hosting another successful exhibition at Bellaghy Bawn. The exhibition features bold, vibrant and contemporary portrayals of iconic sites such as Dunluce Castle, Ardboe Cross and Beaghmore Stone Circles.”

After a year of holding large solo exhibitions across Northern Ireland, Adrian looked forward to this latest opportunity. He said: “I was thrilled when I was invited to exhibit at Bellaghy Bawn given the site’s historical importance and its close associations with Seamus Heaney.

“The exhibition is being held in the flanker tower which is a great space, very unusual, and according to local folklore - the very centre of Ulster. The work going on show depicts other historical sites and landmarks in the region as well as nostalgic depictions of Irish life and traditions.”

The Bellaghy Bawn, a fortified house, was built in the 17th Century on lands granted to the Vinters Company of London during the plantation of Ulster.  There is a library in the Bawn which is devoted to Seamus Heaney and his work. It contains unique material from the poet together with many of his manuscripts, books and all his broadcasts and television work.   The exhibition opens on Wednesday 22 July and continues until Sunday 16 August.
