The Belfast Collection
Adrian spent his student days in Belfast, as the city emerged from its troubled past and was transforming itself into the vibrant, bustling cultural hub that it is today. A good deal of Adrian’s Belfast work depicts the city by night. Views across the River Lagan of a city undergoing regeneration feature prominently. Popular night spots and iconic Belfast buildings like City Hall, Crown Bar, Queen’s University, Botanic Gardens and Transport House are among those which Adrian has revisited in his work time and again.
Understanding Belfast involves an appreciation of its industrial heritage. As the birthplace of the RMS Titanic and with a long tradition of ship building, many of Adrian’s Belfast scenes incorporate the renovated Belfast Docks and the well-known Harland & Wolff Cranes. More recently Adrian has turned to depicting the city’s green spaces, like the Lagan Tow Path, Minnowburn and beautiful parks like Lady Dixon’s. Although many of the pieces featured here are now sold, it is hoped viewers might gain inspiration if considering commissioning Adrian to create their own Belfast artwork.
